The Nearness of God

Scripture: Psalm 73:28; James 4:8

Contemplative: Breath prayer: “Jesus, You are near.”

Contending: Pray for softened hearts in our community.

Scripture reminds us that God is not distant or reluctant, but near to all who draw close to Him. As we slow our breathing and pray, “Jesus, You are near,” we train our hearts to notice His present help and gentle nearness. From that place of awareness, we contend for our community—asking God to soften hardened hearts and awaken a hunger for His presence. May nearness with God become the doorway through which others encounter His grace.

“Prayer is the inward breath of the soul.” — John Chrysostom
